The Cultural Center
The Cultural Center (or Taller, in Spanish) is a 50-foot long building of native lumber, housing a tool-room, a wood working shop, a painting workshop, a gallery, an art materials store, and an administrative office. It also has a large, covered porch that is often used for meetings and cultural gatherings. Placed high on the side of a south-facing hill, it has an expansive view of the lake, some of the islands, and the Costa Rican mountains. The Solentiname Friendship Group’s fundraising work paid for the materials and for some of the masonry and carpentry work, but most work, building and landscaping, was voluntarily done by members of our group and the Solentiname artist’s community.
